The Opotiki Community REAF Trust (OCRT) with Charitable status is being set up (June 2022) to publicize and grow the Community Reef as an Opotiki community asset.

Although currently being facilitated by Lloyd at The Wharf Hub, once registered with its own elected officers, it is envisaged that a Trust will be entirely responsible for the growth and management of the Opotiki Community Reef on behalf of the Opotiki Community and marine life.

With harbour dredging about to begin in June, a new harbour entrance to be open by the end of 2023, and mussel farm operations well underway, it is felt that forming a OCRT is timely.

​

REAF and ZEAND fishing experiences offer their own open ended perspectives of sustainable fishing, it is envisaged that an OCRT will over time develop and promote its own path to community sustainability.
