Marine Life Tours

Marine Life Tours is a closely affiliated  tour that explores Sea Gardening concepts out on the sea. It is dependent on weather and sea conditions being suitable.

Although we might catch a fish or two, the main focus is about seeing if our reef deployments are indeed making a difference.

Become a citizen scientist! Drop cameras take you to the seabed to view and record what is going on.
Baited underwatr fish video, seabed GPS linked surveys and fish sampling allow us to build up a better picture of how Sea Gardening efforts are making a difference.

Many of these recordings are shared on seafloor.nz to help build up a national picture of Aotearoa vast seabed.

Add to these GPS linked visual surveys the on line Fishing Log area reports being collected from fishing efforts in the Opotiki area and a picture of change emerges.

Enjoy two to three hours out on the sea, visit the Opotiki Community Reef area and the world's largest open ocean Mussel farm some 10km off the Opotiki coast.

There's lots of stories along the way, as well as keeping an eye out for sea birds and marine life along the way.

Return to a warming snack and hot drink while your survey results are added to the database of knowledge being built.
